Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:

  1. A recent mechanical failure has shut down recycling services for at least the next two weeks. Bartow's recycling landfill site is at full capacity. If citizens can store their recyclables until the site is back online, they are urged to do so. Otherwise, they can lump them in with their regular trash. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
  2. A few months ago, an outdoor stage was proposed for the Cartersville library. Having received funding for the project, the library will have to clear a few hurdles to gain approval for the outdoor events stage. (wbhfradio.org)
  3. A 21-year-old Cartersville man has been held since April on four charges of child molestation. He was denied a bond reduction in Bartow Superior Court on Jan. 31. He may be facing additional charges regarding the same victim. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)

From my notebook:

  • The Bartow County Sheriff's Office needs your help to identify this person. On Thursday, Feb. 2, deputies responded to King's Pizzeria, in reference to a theft. The complainant reported this male subject came in asking for free food. Video footage showed the subject taking the tip jar from the counter and hiding it on his person. He left the scene prior to law enforcement responding to the call. "Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bartow County Sheriff's Office, Criminal Investigations Division at 770-382-5050 ext. 6098." (Bartow County Sheriff's Office (Official) via Facebook)
  • "Emily Smith has installed her gorgeous paintings in our Cartersville Library Art Gallery! Join us at the reception Tuesday, Feb. 7, to meet and talk with the artist. Stop by anytime in February and March to enjoy her art." (Bartow County Library System via Facebook)
  • "Don't miss out. Only two weeks remain to view the 20-panel exhibit "Eighteen Artifacts: Story of Jewish Atlanta" on display at the Cartersville Public Library. This exhibit is made possible through a partnership between the Georgia Public Library Service and the Breman Museum." (Bartow County Library System via Facebook)
  • "History Weekend! Come on out to Georgia's historic sites for Super Museum Sunday. Georgia's fascinating past will be highlighted this Sunday and free admission will be honored at Georgia Historic Sites." (Friends of Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites via Facebook)
  • "Black History Month is the perfect time to visit this Bartow County museum and cultural center housed in the former Noble Hill Rosenwald School. Built in 1923, this was the first school in northwest Georgia constructed with Rosenwald funds. These funds were dedicated specifically to the education of black children. The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday 9 a.m.-4 p.m." (Cartersville-Bartow County Convention & Visitors Bureau via Facebook)
