Darren Billy Wilson, 47, was killed when he allegedly “charged one of the deputies” while yelling threats at the officer, the GBI previously said.

The Bartow County Sheriff’s Office informed the GBI that Anthony Parker is the deputy “who was involved in the shooting.”

The GBI is investigating the incident, which started when local authorities received a call around 3:22 p.m. July 21 about a man “who had a large stick and was threatening the caller,” the GBI said in a press release.

Two deputies responded to the area of 318 and 538 Spring Place in White where they encountered Wilson, “who was only wearing boxer shorts and a baseball hat,“ the GBI previously said.

When Wilson allegedly charged at one of the deputies, the other deputy shot the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The deputies were not injured during the incident, the GBI said.

The GBI will conduct its investigation to determine what occurred during the incident. Once the investigation is complete, it will then be turned over to the Bartow County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Parker and the other deputy are both on paid administrative leave while the investigation remains active, according to The Rome News-Tribune.
