Residents Can Celebrate History With Native American Heritage Day
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 14 at the Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site in Cartersville.

Cartersville and Bartow County residents are invited to celebrate how Native American heritage and culture have shaped their lives.
The Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site will host the event, which will start at 10 a.m. March 14. The cost to attend is $2 for children up to 5 years old, $4 for youth 6-17 years old and $6 for adults.

Next month’s event will encompass everything from the foods we eat to the names of places that surround us. The event will start with a discussion of how cultural markers are used to distinguish cultures from one another. This is followed by a beginner’s genealogy workshop.
Beginners learn how to start looking into their family history to understand how many cultures, including Native American cultures, have influenced who we are today.

Weather permitting, a food and culture program will start at 11 a.m., followed at 2 p.m. with Dr. Max White giving a lecture on prehistoric Cherokee and Creek culture.
