Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:

  1. The Bartow County Planning Commission's highly anticipated meeting about the Aubrey Corp 'planned greenspace' project ran for almost five hours on Monday night. "Well over 100 people showed up at the March 27 hearing, with the public comment period lasting approximately two hours." The rezoning request was recommended for approval by the commission with a 5-2 vote. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
  2. The City of White's special mayoral election, held on March 21, was certified on Monday, March 27. Bartow County Elections Supervisor Joseph Kirk said there were minor issues involving voters' addresses, but that it solved easily and relatively common. Curtis Powell won the mayoral seat over Karen Lee in a 73-49 vote. (wbhfradio.org)
  3. The fourth annual Wag & Walk 5K benefiting the Etowah Valley Humane Society is scheduled for April 21 at Sam Smith Park. "We wanted to make it a 'pet-friendly' race whereby not only is running with your pooch allowed, but it's encouraged," said Matt Terry, co-owner of Wire2Wire Running. Registration ends April 17 at midnight and it's $30 to enter the race. Race day registration will be available until 5 p.m. and costs $40. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
