Here are the top three stories today in Cartersville:

  1. A hoax shooter threat put Cartersville High on lockdown. Law enforcement in Cartersville responded to false threats of violence to the city's high school campus on Wednesday. The school received a call at 11:27 a.m. from the Cartersville Police Department about an active shooter threat on campus. After the school was placed on lockdown, police cleared the campus at about 12:05 p.m. "It is our understanding that this is one of several fake 911 calls regarding active shooters at schools that have been made across the state this morning," Cartersville City Schools stated in a news release. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  2. Gang members were sentenced to federal prison for execution of a member suspected of "snitching:. A 17-year-old, who may have witnessed a shooting involving his fellow 135 Pirus gang members, was interviewed by law enforcement. Suspected of "snitching," he was lured to Bartow County two days later, where he was shot and killed. Eight months prior to the nightclub shooting, one of the accused murderers committed a drive-by shooting of a man standing in his front yard in Cartersville. The firearm was thrown into Lake Allatoona after the shooting. The FBI later recovered the weapon and matched cartridge casings and a bullet from the drive-by shooting to the firearm. (Department of Justice)
  3. The withdrawal of guilty plea was denied. Now 19, but only 17 when the crimes were committed, the defendant initially entered a non-negotiated guilty plea to three counts of aggravated assault, one count of burglary, two counts of felony theft by taking, one count of first degree cruelty to children, three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and two counts of felony obstruction. The man's public defender, LeAnna Wade, argued that the plea was "not entered knowingly." The motion to withdraw the defendant's guilty plea was denied by Cherokee Judicial Circuit Judge Suzanne H. Smith. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
