Here are the top stories today in Cartersville:
- Bartow County Commissioner Steve Taylor gave his approval to the terms of a national opioid settlement agreement at a Jan. 18 public meeting. "The State of Georgia has agreed to enter into this settlement and directing that all of the local governments enter into the settlement," he said. "Georgia will probably get something like $180 million, and maybe 25% of that ends up going to the locals." Pending the settlement moves forward, exactly how much the county will receive remains undetermined. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
- Bartow County Commissioner Steve Taylor's planned vote on a text amendment that would create a "planned green space development district" designation in the County ordinance has been postponed for now. Bartow County Administrator Peter Olson noted that the rezoning request couldn't go through until the text amendment request is approved. "We'll do a public notice once we get it figured out," Bartow County Community Development Director Brandon Johnson said. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
- The Cartersville Farmers Market is accepting vendor applications for this year's season through March 10. Established by the late Bartow County Extension Agent Walter Culverhouse in the early 1980s, the Cartersville Farmer's Market at Founder's Oak parking lot, 10 N. Public Square, kicks off this year's season every Saturday from May 6 through Sept. 30 from 8 a.m. to noon. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
