The 2016 Georgia 11th Congressional District Art Competition exhibition features original masterworks by 47 student-artists representing 12 schools from the district covering Bartow and Cherokee counties and parts of Cobb and Fulton counties.

Featured schools include Cartersville, Creekview, Cherokee, Etowah, Furtah Preparatory, Holy Spirit Preparatory, Kennesaw Mountain, North Atlanta, North Cobb Christian, North Cobb, River Ridge and Woodstock high schools.

“We are excited to be hosting this impressive exhibition showcasing the artistic talent of students across our district at the Downtown Gallery,” said Seth Hopkins, executive director of Booth Western Art Museum. “We appreciate Congressman Loudermilk for sponsoring this opportunity and supporting the arts.”

The public is invited to an Artists’ Reception and Awards Ceremony at 7 p.m. Friday, May 6. The reception will offer an exclusive look into the juried artwork. Many of the student-artists will be in attendance to share their experience creating the pieces exhibited in the Downtown Gallery.

Guests will have the opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments. Rep. Loudermilk will be in attendance to congratulate the student-artists and announce the over-all winner, whose work will be displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol alongside other winners across the country.

The Downtown Gallery is an effort by Booth Western Art Museum to help highlight the talents of local and regional artists and move Cartersville towards becoming a more art focused community.

The gallery is located at 13 North Wall Street. For more information, contact the Downtown Gallery at 770-387-4330 or visit www.downtowngallery.org.
