The Georgia State Patrol said the first vehicle, a white PT Cruiser, was traveling westbound on S.R. 20 while the second vehicle, a red Toyota Corrolla, was traveling eastbound on the highway. The third vehicle, a maroon Ford Festiva, was also traveling eastbound on S.R. 20 behind the Toyota.

According to the state agency, the driver of the PT cruiser failed to maintain her lane and traveled into the eastbound lane. The PT Cruiser hit the Toyota on the left front side and after the impact, it continued to travel westbound in the eastbound lane.

The Toyota rotated and came to a rest, facing westbound in the eastbound lane. As the PT cruiser continued to travel on the wrong side of the highway, it made contact with the Ford. That collision forced the Ford Festiva off the roadway where it "hit an embankment, overturned and came to rest in the ditch on its roof," GSP added.

After contact with Festiva, the PT Cruiser continued westbound in the eastbound lane before crossing back into the westbound lane. It then traveled in the westbound lane "until it left the roadway on the north shoulder where it hit a mailbox," the agency said.

The Cruiser came to rest in a private drive off the north shoulder of S.R. 20.

One female patient, who had to be extracted from the car, suffered fractures to her left femur and pelvis as well as abdominal trauma, and had to be airlifted to an area hospital for treatment. Another woman involved in the crash was transported with chest pain to Cartersville Medical Center for treatment while a male motorist involved in the crash reported no injuries, Cothran added.

The second collision, reported around 10:11 p.m., involved a single vehicle on S.R. 293 just before the Bartow-Floyd county line.

A 1996 Ford Explorer traveling eastbound on the highway was attempting to negotiate a curve when it failed to maintain its lane and traveled onto the shoulder, the Georgia State Patrol said. The SUV then rotated counter-clockwise as it moved back across the eastbound lane, rolled over to its right side and landed on its top, the agency added.

The vehicle came to a final rest after sliding into the westbound lane on the highway.

The driver, Kingston resident Tammy Telayne Barnes, 56, was injured and airlifted to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. The Georgia State Patrol has charged her with failure to maintain lane, use of safety belts in passenger vehicles, driving while licensed suspended or revoked and driving under the influence.
