Woman, 81, Killed By Her Own Car in Cartersville (UPDATED)
The victim was behind the wheel of her car when she was ejected from the open driver side door.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- An 81-year-old woman died late Monday evening after she was thrown from her vehicle and subsequently run over by the car.
Cartersville resident Helena Williams was behind the wheel of a 2007 Honda Accord when she was ejected from the open driver side door while the car was in reverse, said police spokesperson Lt. Mike Bettikofer.

The vehicle then rolled off an embankment and onto the road where Bettikofer said Williams was struck by the car.
According to an accident report released by the agency, Williams was attempting to back up the car from the driveway around 6:40 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle. The area of impact of the collision was on the rear of the car, which suffered moderate damage.

Brad Cothran, spokesperson with Bartow County Emergency Medical Services, said the victim was rushed to Cartersville Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The report notes Williams suffered injuries to her legs and midsection.
