Woman Burned In House Fire Charged With Arson

Cartersville police say the woman, Dorothy Denice Clark, has been previously arrested on arson charges.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- A Cartersville woman who suffered burns from an early Monday morning house fire has been charged with setting the blaze herself.

Dorothy Denice Clark, 43, has been charged with two counts of first degree arson, the Cartersville Police Department said Tuesday.

The agency said Clark was one of three residents who were transported to the hospital for treatment early Monday morning following a house fire at a home on North Bartow Street.

Clark is no stranger to law enforcement. Cartersville police spokesperson Lt. Mike Bettikofer said Clark was arrested last week on first degree arson charges in connection to a May 4 fire at The Oasis apartment complex on North Tennessee Street.

That location "was found to be the residence" of Clark, and records show she was subsequently booked into the Bartow County Jail on one count of arson in the first degree charge.

The latest fire on North Bartow Street, Bettikofer stated, took place at the "temporary" home of Clark, who suffered burns stemming from the fire.

She and two other family members, who were afflicted with smoke inhalation, were all transported to an area hospital for treatment. Investigators made contact with Clark, and conducted a subsequent interview following the fire.

Based upon the probe conducted with the help of the Fire Department's arson investigator, warrants were secured for Clark's arrest.

Clark was transported to Bartow County Jail following her medical treatment, and her two family members were released from the hospital.

Jail records show she was booked into the facility late Monday morning and remains held without bond.
