Here are the top three stories in Cartersville today:
1. Jennifer Lee Jones was booked into the Bartow County jail on Wednesday for the charges of murder during the commission of a felony, murder in the second degree, trafficking in illegal drugs and cruelty to a child in the second degree. Being in possession of the illegal drug fentanyl at her home led to the death of a juvenile. (wbhfradio.org)
2. A convicted sex offender was sentenced to 15 years on probation (no time behind bars) for charges of trafficking persons for sexual servitude, using a computer service to solicit someone believed to be a child and criminal attempt to commit a felony — child molestation. This case is one of the last from 'Operation Paladin,' a joint operation between the GBI, the Bartow County Sheriff's Office and Homeland Security, which took place in November 2018 and resulted in the arrests of 20 men. 3. Local voters will decide if the senior school tax exemption will be approved. If so, Bartow County School System is estimating its lost revenue will be $3 million to $4 million each year. (Subscription: The Daily Tribune News)
