Woodland Senior Named STAR Student Region Winner

Christian Welch and his STAR Teacher, Tiffany Post, will represent the region in the state competition on April 23.

CARTERSVILLE, GA — A Woodland High School senior has been named a Professional Association of Georgia Educators STAR Student Region 1 winner. Christian Welch attended the competition on March 13 with his STAR Teacher, Tiffany Post, after he earned the Bartow County School System's title in February.

Along with this prestigious title, Welch has received $400 from the PAGE Foundation while Post received $200 from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. Both student and educator will represent the region at the banquet honoring the statewide STAR Student on April 23 in Atlanta where they will compete for more scholarships and awards.

To obtain the 2018 STAR nomination, high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top ten students of their class based on grade point average. Welch currently ranks number one in his senior class with a 101.8-grade point average. He also achieved an SAT score of 1560 and an ACT score of 35.
