• Homeowner billed $6.7K after Georgia Power failure damaged her appliances (wsbtv.com) — A Cumming homeowner says an underground Georgia Power equipment failure caused flickering lights and widespread damage to her appliances, leaving her with about $6,700 in repair costs. Georgia Power acknowledged the failure but denied her claim, saying it wasn't negligent, leaving her and consumer advocates questioning what recourse local residents have when utility problems damage their homes.
• Forsyth, Alpharetta police reports: DUI, scam, slap (appenmedia.com) — Recent police reports show a Cumming woman and a Gainesville man lost $7,200 in a mortgage scam after paying a supposed loan-modification contact through a transfer app. Forsyth County deputies also handled a high-speed reckless driving case, while Alpharetta officers reported a clinic altercation and a DUI arrest involving a fraudulent tag, highlighting ongoing safety and fraud concerns nearby.
• Ricky Joy recalls 2.3M candy bottles over choking hazard (topclassactions.com) — A major national recall involves more than 2.3 million Sour Crush Rolling Liquid Candy bottles imported by a company based in Cumming, so local families should check their pantries. The rolling ball applicator can detach and pose a choking hazard, and the company is urging consumers to stop using the candy immediately and request a refund with prepaid return shipping.
