Bike-less BBQ Event Benefits Local Dog Rescue Center, Honors Vet
The fundraiser supports Canine Pet Rescue and pays tribute to a former Lawrenceville police officer killed in a motorcycle accident in 2012.

DACULA, GA – The annual Bikes, Barks, Bar-B-Q and Brews event may be going bike-less this year because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but Canine Pet Rescue is still counting on what is annually it's largest fundraiser that also honors a late Lawrenceville police officer.
The 10th annual event will take place from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Big Sky Farm, located at 2625 Jones Phillips Rd. in Dacula after being pushed back from May because of the pandemic. Because of ongoing restrictions, this year’s event will not include the motorcycle ride that typically takes places in honor of Trey Phillips, a local attorney and former police officer who was killed in 2012 on Highway 316 while riding his motorcycle.
Proceeds from event will benefit Canine Pet Rescue to support the organization’s ongoing operations, which includes veterinary care for the dogs who are housed at the rescue. The event will include beer serving service from Lincoln Fill Station and attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and blanket for a socially distanced lunch. The event will also include dog demos and music.

Carla Brown, president of Canine Rescue, said proceeds go for an important cause, which was also supported by Phillips, an Army veteran who volunteered with the organization.
“The majority of the money spent by Canine Pet Rescue goes to veterinary bills,” Brown said in a news release. “The dogs we rescue have typically been out on their own for a while and have health issues that are costly that need to be addressed before we can place them in their forever homes.”
