The Dolphins who are new to the sport of competitive swimming get a great opportunity to not only practice during the summer season but to gain valuable experience in participating in meets. We have three types of meets:

  • Mock Meets – The team will practice as if they were participating in a meet although no outside teams are involved. The coaches will align the swimmers in a manner to help facilitate a meet like atmosphere.
  • Dual Meets are for the swimmer experience the sport of competitive swimming on a smaller scale than the larger NGSL meets. These meets consist of two teams and provides that swimmers the experience needed to feel more comfortable in the larger NGSL meets.   Hand held timers normally used at these events.
  • NGSL Meets – The league holds four large meets, where the league comes together to compete.  Swim judges will be at these meets as well as electronic timers. Hand held timers are as a back up to the electric timers. The swimmers get to experience the excitement of a large-scale meet. NGSL has approximately 1500 swimmers.

The NGSL provides the swimmers with four large meets during the season. Three of these meets are used to obtain times required to enter district and possibly the ultimate goal of being part of the state meet. The NGSL meets are:

  • The Pentathlon is our version of the Ironman competition. Swimmers must be able to swim all four strokes, and pass the scrutiny of having swim judges evaluate their strokes and turns.  Each swimmer swim all four stokes plus the IM.  The five events combined and scored accordingly to determine the standings.
  • The Splash Meet held at the Francis Meadows Aquatic Center. Coaches determine which events the children participate. The coaches work with the simmers to insure the events are right for the child and are the events in which your children have interest.
  • Our very own Dacula Dolphin Swim Team sponsors invitational. The meet is for swimmers who either are new to the sport of competitive swimming or need further development in specific strokes, or the IM itself.  The Dolphins reply heavily on its children’s parents and friends to work this event is successful.
  •  NGSL League Championship is so large that no one pool can hold all of the swimmers over a weekend. Friday’s evening meet will be for ages 13-18, and girls 11 through 12. Saturdays meet will be for 10 and under and 11 through 12 boys. Exact locations are to be announced as we come closer to the event.

The District meet is one of the largest events that we participate in. Swimmers must obtain specific times in order to enter, and is a combination of the NGSL and the Gwinnett Swim League. The top three swimmers from this event go on to the GRPA State Meet. The Dolphins commonly send swimmers to both the district and state meets.

These meets cannot be successful without the dedication of each individual swimmer. Those swimmers who are new to the sport can see dramatic changes from the start to the end of the summer season. The meets could not be successful because Coaches, Team Board Members, Parents, family and friends all work together to coordinate and manage all aspects of the league and meets. Each team’s board relies on its teams and other teams to provide the required number of adults to run a successful event for the children.  The Dolphins Summer registration is open until May 31st, you can register at http://daculadolphins.swim-team.us/ or contact us for further information at   daculadolphinsswimboard@gmail.com.
