Dacula Eco-Teen Competes for $50,000 Prize

MCHS student vies for $50,000 in order to continue international environmental organization.

That eco-teen is me.

In 2008 as a 5th grader, I began noticing the world around me; thus guiding me to the global issue of littering. What began as a simple service project organically grew into an international movement that was empowering 500 youth to engage 6,000 community members in various environmental projects across the globe by 2011.

Greening Forward, the organization that I started, is offering inspiration to teens wanting to make a difference. Teens are tackling sustainable agriculture, transportation, waste, and energy issues in their communities.  We have planted 32 trees, recycled 10 tons of waste, saved 86,000 gallons of water, and our work offsets the carbon emissions of 5.21 homes for one year. Our youth-youth mentorships, online social networking platform, youth summits, How-To guides, civic engagement curricula, and even mini-grants help support this changemaking.
