Car Rear-Ends Garbage Truck; Driver Seriously Injured, Traffic Tied Up

The truck was stopped by heavy traffic when the collision occurred.

A driver who police said drove into the rear end of a garbage truck was sent to the hospital with serious injuries Monday morning near Dacula.

Gwinnett Police spokesperson Cpl. Michele Pihera said in an afternoon email that the driver had to be extricated from a Dodge Charger. The driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Pihera said the garbage truck was stopped by heavy traffic on westbound Ga. 316 near Harbins Road around 7:20 a.m., when the Charger collided.

Westbound Ga. 316 was shut down during the investigation.
