Charges Added Against Gwinnett Man Who Raped Woman Police Say

More charges have been filed against the Buford man who allegedly tied up, tased and raped a woman, police said.

BUFORD, GA β€” More charges have been filed against a Buford man who allegedly tied up, tased and raped a woman. Following a narcotics investigation, Thuan Q. Dinh, 39, was recently charged with trafficking marijuana and possession of a schedule I controlled substance. He was served these additional warrants while incarcerated at the Gwinnett County Jail, police say.

The Gwinnett County man was initially arrested last month after police say he tied up, raped and sexually and physically abused a woman for at least 24 hours. On Nov. 24, he was charged with rape, false imprisonment, robbery and two counts of aggravated assault.

According to Gwinnett County Police, officers were called to a home on Grand Ashbury Road. There, they met with a 41-year-old woman from California who residents said arrived at their home naked with her hands bound with rope and duct tape around her head and neck.

Officers determined that the crime had happened at 594 Grand Asbury Lane.

Police say Dinh, the victim's boyfriend, had traveled to her home in California and drove her back to his home in Buford. Once there, they say, he tied her up, raped her and shocked her with a taser. She was physically and sexually assaulted for about 24 hours, police say.

Dinh left the home briefly, leaving the woman in the basement, according to police. That's when she got out of the house and ran to the neighbor's home for help.

When officers arrived at Dinh's home, they found no one inside. After obtaining a search warrant police say they found what they call a large amount of marijuana. During the investigation, detectives say they also found that Dinh had been using multiple fake names.

He was captured during a traffic stop on Buford Highway at Suwanee Dam Road. He was arrested and taken to Gwinnett County Police headquarters, then Gwinnett County Jail. Additional charges in the case related to the drugs are expected, police say.

The woman treated at a local hospital for her injuries.

"The victim is now in a safe location recovering from this event," said police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera. "We hope that she makes a full recovery from all her injuries both physically and emotionally. Now that the suspect has been captured and charged, we hope this will start to bring some comfort to her and her family."
