College Football Scores: SEC Week 5
Georgia and South Carolina continue to battle for the SEC East, Alabama continues to dominate the SEC West and Arkansas' woes continue.
Once again, the Tennessee Volunteers (3-2) managed to make things a bit uncomfortable for the Dawgs (5-0). However, No. 5Β GeorgiaΒ managed to pull off the 51-44 win with offensive play The Bleacher Report described as βstunning.β Quarterback Aaron Murray completed 18 of 24 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns and, according to The Bleacher Report, βthe Bulldogs defense was able to come up with just enough stops.β
βThis was an incredible game to watch. Tennessee refused to go away, but they were stuck behind the eight ball far too often. In the end, they couldn't make enough crucial plays, on either side of the ball, to get the job done,β the article stated.
Next week, the battle for the SEC East will come to a head as Georgia travels to Columbia to face the South Carolina Gamecocks (5-0).

Other SEC scores from week five of the 2012 college football season include:
- Ole MissΒ 14, No. 1Β AlabamaΒ 33 β For a few brief seconds, the Rebels (3-2) did something no other team has done this season -- lead Alabama (5-0). Ole Miss held a 7-6 lead just long enough to kickoff and have the ball run back for a touchdown. The game was never close after that. To their credit, Ole Miss looks like a much-improved team, but not improved enough to stop the Alabama juggernaut. Among the dayβs highlights for the Tide, quarterback A.J. McCarron broke Brodie Croyleβs record of 190 consecutive passes without an interception, ending the day with a new school mark of 206. Alabama has next weekend off before heading to Missouri on Oct. 13. Ole Miss hosts Texas A&M.
- ArkansasΒ 10,Β Texas A&MΒ 58 β Just when you think things couldnβt get much worse for the Razorbacks (1-4), the Aggies (3-1) happen along. Arkansas suffered an absolute shellacking in College Station Saturday as A&M redshirt freshman quarterback Johnny Manziel posted another incredible performance throwing for 453 yards and running for 104. βManziel's 557 total yards also broke the old SEC record of 540 by Archie Manning of Ole Miss vs. Alabama in 1969 and Rohan Davey of LSU vs. Alabama in 2001,β KBTX reported. βThrough the first four games (all starts) of his career, Manziel has attempted 124 passes without an interception. The last QB to do this was Bucky Richardson, who made five starts as a true freshman without an interception for the season.βΒ Next week, Arkansas travels to Auburn and the Aggies head to Ole Miss.
- Towson 22, No. 3Β LSUΒ 38 β The Tigers (5-0) performance against Towson was probably not what head coach Les Miles was hoping for as his team prepares a tough four-game stretch that includes Florida next week before facing South Carolina, Texas A&M and Alabama. LSU managed to do well enough to avoid an upset, but left fans unhappy. βLSU had portrayed its 12-10 victory at Auburn a week earlier as a wakeup call, but it continued to stumble intermittently against its first FCS opponent of the season - enough so that frustrated fans routinely groaned and even booed,β Yahoo Sports reported.
- No. 6Β South CarolinaΒ 38,Β KentuckyΒ 17 β The Wildcats (1-4) gave South Carolina (5-0) everything they could handle and then some in the first half of play, but the Gamecocks scored 31 unanswered points in the second half to preserve their shot at a SEC East title. "Coming out in the second half, we knew that we didn't have a good first half," Gamecocks defensive endΒ Devin TaylorΒ told the Associated Press. "Our whole plan was to come with the intensity that we didn't show." Up next: South Carolina hosts Georgia and Kentucky hosts Mississippi State.
- MissouriΒ 21, Central Florida 16 β The Miami Herald reports that Missouriβs win Saturday was βfilled with the kind of team-building moments that will certainly be beneficial when they return to Southeastern Conference play.β Missouri (3-2) will have a chance to show what they learned next week against Vanderbilt.
