Dacula Cook of the Week: Carla Zwick
This week's featured cook shares a recipe for a great way to start your day.
This week's Dacula cook is Carla Zwick. Zwick, who lives in the Hamilton Mill subdivision, shares her recipe for Crock Pot Fruited Oatmeal.
Zwick caters for many area school events. She always has great recipe ideas.
“A few months ago I catered the meals for the officials and volunteers at the Southeast Region Finals of the Junior Olympics held at Mill Creek,” Zwick wrote in an email to Dacula Patch. “I put together the following recipe for Saturday’s breakfast.”
Carla Zwick found out that this recipe is good enough to feed those picky teen eaters.
“It went over so well, I had to make it again for Sunday's continental breakfast buffet!” Zwick wrote. “I thought it would be too hot for oatmeal, but they loved it!”
Crock Pot Fruited Oatmeal
Ingredients:
12 cups water
4-5 cups old fashioned oats (not quick-cooking oats)
5 Granny Smith apples, peeled & diced
3/4 c. +/- Craisins (dried cranberries)
1 1/2 c. chopped walnuts
cinnamon
brown sugar
Preparation:
1. Put first 3 ingredients in crock pot on low setting overnight
2. In morning, stir well and add cranberries, walnuts & cinnamon
3. Let sit for 15-20 minutes (until the cranberries plump)
4. Serve with milk & brown sugar
Enjoy!
Carla’s Crock Pot Fruited Oatmeal is the perfect way to start your day. Take just a few minutes to prepare the dish before you go to bed, and you will wake up to the wonderful smell of a healthy breakfast.
