Dacula Driver Facing Drug Charges After Causing Accident

A police officer investigating a traffic accident near Dacula found there might be a reason why one vehicle rear-ended another on Harbins Road at Ga. Highway 316.

The drive at fault was carrying weed.

According to a Gwinnett Police incident report, an officer spotted two cars and their drivers in the middle of the lane around 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 13. A Ford Ranger had run into a Honda Pilot at the traffic light.

After the cars were re-located to a nearby gas station, the officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana the car that rear-ended the other, according to the incident report.

The driver, a 20-year-old Dacula resident, said he didn’t realize the Honda Pilot had stopped at the red light. He also admitted he had some pot in the car.

In a glass jar on the passenger’s seat, the officer found two sandwich bags containing a green leafy substance and a red grinder, “which is usually used for marijuana,” the officer wrote in the report.

On top of the jar was a backpack which had 12 sandwich bags containing more green leafy substances and more than $1,000 in cash. Corey Humphrey was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute and following too closely.
