Dacula Falcons Look to Right Ship Against Rockdale

After losses to Mill Creek, the boys and girls basketball teams prepare for the Bulldogs.

Though the girls basketball team has not had the best start to the season with a 3–6 overall record, Head Coach Travis Young said the team is beginning to gel in preparation for Saturday's matchup with Rockdale County High School.

"We're playing really well as a team, and that's becoming our strong point," Young said. "We hustle well, and we're really going to focus on playing a good hard defense."

The Lady Falcons are coming off of a tough 60–28 loss to last Saturday, but Young said he wants the team to focus on the strongest aspects of its game.

The team's energy level and defensive presence led to Dacula's Dec. 3 victory over Archer High School, Young said, and will also help the team against Rockdale.

Though defense has been a priority for the Lady Hawks, junior April Green said the team's versatile offense will also help Dacula against Rockdale this weekend.

"Once we drive and the defense collapses and we kick out, we know we're going to make it every time," Green said. "If not we know we have our post in position."

The Dacula girls team tips off against Rockdale County at 6 p.m. Saturday at Rockdale County High School.

For the boys team, Head Coach B.J. Roy said he wants to use the Falcons' size in their showdown with Rockdale.

"Anthony [Morse] has been developing over the course of the year, and Xavier [Okoro] was established coming into the season," Roy said. "We've been trying to get the ball inside and teach the kids to attack the basket."

The Falcons will need to improve on offense and have been focusing on scoring since they suffered a 53–38 loss at the hands of Mill Creek. Aside from feeding the ball down low to the big men, Dacula has also focused on creating more ball distribution.

"Ball movement is the key to offense," sophomore Brandon Goodson said. "If we don't keep the ball movement going, we'll be stagnant and won't get a decent shot up. And if we can't get a decent shot up we won't get any points out of it."

The boys game against Rockdale is set for Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Rockdale County High School.
