The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Georgia was $2.55 for the week ending May 10. That’s 30 cents higher than a month ago, but $1.10 less than this time last year.
Despite the continued surge in price, the AAA points out motorists nationwide are saving an average of $15 or more on a tank of gas compared to last year.

“This is great news for motorists who are shaping their Memorial Day travel plans,” AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said in the briefing. “Typically it’s not the price during the holiday weekend, but gas prices in the weeks leading up to the holiday that have the biggest effect on motorists’ plans. Gas prices typically hit their yearly peak this time of year, but the price of oil has been on an upward trend for eight consecutive weeks, so gas prices may not hit their ceiling until oil prices find equilibrium.”
The lowest price reported Monday morning in Dacula on AtlantaGasPrice.com was $2.51.
