Dacula Gazebo to Cost $17,000

Structure would be built on city property at the corner of Second Avenue and Wilson Street.

The will decide next week whether to proceed with construction of a downtown gazebo.

The gazebo will replace the one that was once located near the railroad tracks in downtown Dacula. The city was forced to demolish the gazebo in June 2009 due to its encroachment on the CSX railroad right-of-way.

The new gazebo is expected to cost $17,000 and would be located at the corner of Second Avenue and Wilson Street.

City administrator Jim Osborn said plans call for an octagon-shaped gazebo to be built on a 20x20 concrete slab. The gazebo would have an eight-sided cupola with tempered glass and would be constructed of cedar with cedar shake shingles on the roof. City officials also plan to run water and electricity to the structure.

City crews will provide the labor and other costs will be paid for entirely out of SPLOST funds, Osborn said.
