Dacula to Revise, Rebid Maintenance Facility Project

City officials are working with engineers to revise plans for Dacula’s new maintenance facility after all 10 bids for the project came in over budget.

The city hopes to spend approximately $750,000 for the new facility. However, bids ranged from a low of $1.034 million to a high of $1.315 million. According to City Administrator Jim Osborn, those amounts exceed what is available in SPLOST funding.

“They were very close, very competitive. Unfortunately, they’re all over budget,” Osborn said.

As a result, some of the features initially planned for the new facility are being eliminated.

“We’re pretty close to getting it down to a more manageable $700,000, $750,000 -- somewhere in that range -- and that’ll give us a little leeway,” Osborn said.

Osborn hopes to have a new building plan finalized by next week. At that point, the project will be rebid. Osborn said it was unfortunate the city needed to restart the process, but there is no other choice.

“These numbers are just too high and over budget,” Osborn said.
