Dacula Woman Charged With Public Intoxication, Child Cruelty
She left her 6-year-old son alone in a car while she went looking for more drinks, sheriff's deputies say.

A Dacula woman was arrested Sunday on charges she left her 6-year-old son alone in a car while she tried to get more drinks at a wedding party.
Gwendolyn Claire Truby, 41, left the car in neutral and the keys in the ignition and parked near a drop-off into Lake Lanier, Hall County Sheriff's Office deputies say.
Truby's car was located by security guards on the 7000 block of Lanier Islands Parkway on Lake Lanier Islands.

When deputies arrived, they found Truby intoxicated and her son sleeping safely in the back seat of the car, according to a news release.
Witnesses told deputies that Truby had gone into a wedding party and was asking for drinks. She did not remember where she had left her car, according to the sheriff's office.

The car was on a dirt area about 40 feet from the waterfront and 20 feet from "a substantial drop-off of the terrain," the news release said.
The 6-year-old boy, who did not sustain any known injuries, was turned over to his father's custody. The Georgia Division of Family and Children Services was notified of the incident.
Truby was arrested without incident and booked at the Hall County Jail. She is charged with second-degree cruelty to children, reckless conduct and public intoxication.
