Deadline Fast Approaching: 22nd Annual Dacula Memorial Day Parade

The deadline for participating in the 22nd Annual Dacula Memorial Day parade in Dacula is fast approaching. The parade is on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2015 and starts promptly at 10 am from Hebron Baptist Church and takes place rain or shine.

The Dacula Memorial Day parade is one of the most high profile events in the metro Atlanta area on Memorial Day. It is important that we take this opportunity to honor the sacrifice made by thousands of Americans who died guarding our precious liberties and way of life. Our goal is that today’s youth must understand the significance and meaning of Memorial Day.

Parade entries must be received and postmarked on or before Friday, May 15, 2015. Any entries received after this date will not be accepted for this year’s parade.

The parade theme is, “They Gave Their Lives to Protect Their Country”.

The Grand Marshal for this year’s Memorial Day parade in Charles G. Mitchell who is a WWII and Korean War Army Veteran.

Founded by Marvin Atherton, the Dacula Memorial Day parade has been a proud tradition in Dacula since 1994. The parade has grown over the years and remains the only Memorial Day parade in the metro Atlanta area, largest in the state of Georgia and one of the largest in our nation with more than 150 units participating in the parade each year. More than 10,000 spectators line city streets to watch the parade.

The 2015 Dacula Memorial Day Parade Committee invites all Veterans, Veteran organizations, Scouts, churches, schools, community organizations, businesses and community residents to participate. In addition to the parade, there are other events planned for Memorial Day in Dacula beginning with a one mile Fun Run at 8:00 AM, and a 5K run at 8:30 AM. Both events start at the Dacula Public Library at the entrance to Dacula Park. Please note that there is not a Memorial Day festival this year.
