Destroyed Tannery Building Still Smolders After Massive Fire

Gwinnett County firefighters were continuing to douse hot spots just before noon Wednesday in the aftermath of Tuesday night’s massive warehouse fire in Buford.

The vacant building formerly known as the Bona Allen Tannery, located on East Moreno Street in downtown Buford, was destroyed by a fire that had crews on scene from around 7 p.m. into the overnight.
Gwinnett Fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge said a crew would probably be needed into the evening to apply water on deep-seated hot spots.

Fire crews had allowed the large fire to burn itself out.
The structure was a total loss.
The cause of the fire is not known and under active investigation, Rutledge said.
