Fake Cop Follows High School Teen Girls Home

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA— Gwinnett Police need the public’s help identifying a police impersonator who displayed a red and blue light and tried to get them to pull over, following them home, police say.

On May 9, Gwinnett County Police Officers were dispatched to a neighborhood in Dacula in reference to a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival officers spoke with two high school girls, who were sisters and students at Mill Creek High School. The sisters reported while at the intersection of Hog Mountain Road and Mineral Springs Road a dark colored Ford pickup truck pulled behind them and activated a red and blue light that was located on the dashboard of the suspect vehicle. The sisters did not believe the vehicle was a real police car and continued home.

Upon arriving at their residence, the sisters pulled into the driveway and the suspect vehicle parked on the street blocking the driveway. The suspect approached the passenger side of the sisters’ vehicle and attempted to get them to roll their window down. He told them he was a “cop.” The sisters told the suspect that they were on the phone with their mother and the suspect left the scene.

Officers located a nearby residence with security cameras and were able to obtain still photos of part of the police impersonator's vehicle.

The police impersonator is described as being about 6’ 00,” tall, heavy set man, between 20 and 30 years of age, with brown shaggy hair with no facial hair, light blue eyes, tattoo on the inside of his upper left arm and a southern accent. He was wearing a light blue shirt and tan shorts with a knife case on his belt.

His vehicle is described as a dark colored Ford F-150 2004-2008 XLT Crew Cab with clear aftermarket tail lights including the third brake light, chrome gas tank cover, after market chrome tube steps with running boards.

Anyone encountering the suspect vehicle should call 911. If anyone has any information to share in this case, contact detectives at 770-513-5300.
