LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — Gwinnett County and Georgia Forestry Commission firefighters are hoping they have a small wildfire at a park near Dacula under control.

Crews have been on the scene at Harbins Park since late Wednesday afternoon.

The woods border a residential neighborhood, park property and a power line field.

Firefighters were running a hose line Thursday to extinguish hot spots and a bulldozer from the Georgia Forestry Commission was being used, but had so far been unable to cut a firebreak due to difficult terrain.

Firefighters, instead, were working to strengthen a manual firebreak using hand tools, fire-rakes and water-cans.

No structures had been damaged Thursday afternoon and no injuries had been reported.

The incident comes after several weeks of wildfires burning through thousands of acres in north Georgia.

Earlier Thursday, Gov. Nathan Deal issued water restrictions in 52 counties in Georgia due to the ongoing, severe drought that has gripped the state for months.
