Ga. State Trooper Fired After DUI Arrest

Deionte Marlon McAllister, of Suwanee, finished training school less than three months before his arrest.

SUWANEE, GA — A Georgia State Patrol trooper has been fired after being charged with driving under the influence.

Deionte Marlon McAllister, 24, of Suwanee, was driving on Peachtree Road near Lenox Road at about 3 a.m. on Saturday when a fellow state patrol trooper noticed the men in his vehicle were acting strangely, according to an incident report.

McAllister was revving the car's engine and another man, Michael Norman, was hanging out of a car window, not wearing a seat belt, the report says.

A backseat passenger, Craig Wright, opened his door as the car was moving forward to get out and talk to someone inside another vehicle, according to the report.

McAllister also was reported holding down the car's brakes while "spinning its rear tires and lurching forward" and following another vehicle too closely.

The trooper pulled over McAllister near Piedmont Road. The trooper smelled "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" on McAllister, who admitted he'd visited a pair of bars in Buckhead.

McAllister was arrested after he failed a field sobriety test and Norman was given a ticket for a seat belt violation.

A brief statement from the Georgia Department of Public Safety said McAllister was fired effective at the end of the business day on Monday.
