Gwinnett’s award-winning production of Love That Book – Kindness Counts was honored with the EMMY Award in the following category:
“Outstanding Achievement: News and Program Specialty Excellence, Children/Youth (12 and under) Program.”

Greg LaHatte, the school district’s director of broadcast and distance learning, said, “We are pleased that the Academy continues to recognize GCPS for our educational programming. Our entire GCPS TV team is committed to creating and producing quality and effective programming for our district’s needs. The awards we receive let us know we are performing at the highest of industry levels.”

With the goal of connecting students to great books, and thereby keeping them reading and learning, Love That Book was created in the fall of 2010. Hosted by storyteller and New York Times best-selling children’s author Carmen Agra Deedy, each episode of Love That Book takes students on a reading adventure and helps them navigate the wonderful world of stories.

In this friendship themed episode, Love That Book – Kindness Counts, Deedy teaches young students that words matter and impresses upon them the importance of being kind to one another.

GCPS TV also was recently awarded two TELLY Awards. The team was presented with a Silver TELLY for its production of We Believe and a bronze TELLY for its production of Michael and Maya. Founded in 1979, the TELLY Awards is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs. Winners represent the best work of the most respected production companies, television stations, and corporate video departments in the world.
