Georgia Teacher Arrested In $6 Million Coke, Heroin Bust

Authorities described the drug stash they confiscated as one of the biggest busts in memory.

GAINESVILLE, GA — Authorities in Georgia have charged three people, including a middle school teacher, in what they're calling one of the biggest drug busts in memory.

Cocaine and heroin with an estimated street value of $6.2 million was confiscated in a Hall County raid on Thursday, authorities said. Firearms also were confiscated.

The raid was conducted by the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Gainesville Police Department, Georgia State Patrol and the Georgia National Guard Counterdrug Task Force.

It netted 61 kilograms of cocaine, a kilogram of heroin and two semi-automatic rifles, according to police. The drugs have an estimated street value of $6,209,280.

Monica Pascual Brito, 24, and Karla Alvarez, 28, both of Oakwood, were arrested without incident at a residence on the 4000 block of Crawford Oaks Drive.

Alvarez is a teacher at Chestatee Middle School, according to sheriff's deputies. She taught Spanish and coached the girls' soccer team, according to the school's website.

The two, who shared the home with Brito's brother, face charges of possession and trafficking of cocaine and heroin and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Brito's brother, 25-year-old Ricardo Pascual Brito, remains at large and is wanted on similar charges.

This matter remained under investigation Monday and authorities said that more charges may be coming in the case.
