Gwinnett Armed Robber Heads To Prison For Life

Antonio Robinson drank and bought cocaine with his victim, then pulled a gun and robbed him.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — A Gwinnett County man who had drinks and bought cocaine with his victim, then pulled a gun and robbed him, is headed to prison.

A Gwinnett County jury convicted Antonio Jerome Robinson, 28, on Wednesday on a charge of armed robbery. Because Robinson is a repeat offender, he received the maximum possible sentence — life in prison.

On March 26, 2015, the victim in the case called a friend about getting together to hang out. They made plans and, a short time later, an acquaintance they knew as "Grady" called to say he was there to pick up the victim.

"Grady," prosecutors say, was actually Antonio Robinson.

Robinson, his girlfriend and another man picked up the victim in a silver Hyundai Elantra and they went to a gas station, where the victim gave Robinson money for gas and bought a pair of sunglasses. They had some drinks in the car, then made another stop where the victim bought cocaine.

After that, Robinson suggested going to another part of town where the victim was not comfortable going. He asked to be taken home. Robinson and the others took him home and, as the victim was getting out of the car, they all pointed guns at him and demanded money.

They took cash, two cellphones and the victim's keys. He was able to get away and run home and, as he was running, he heard gunshots being fired from the vehicle.

Due to Robinson's prior convictions, prosecutors filed noticed that he be tried as a recidivist. As such, the court was required by law to sentence him to the maximum possible sentence.
