LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — Summer flies by quickly, and back-to-school is right around the corner. Here’s the 2017-18 school calendar for Gwinnett County Schools.

The first day of school is Aug. 7. New teachers have already begun orientation to get ready for the year, and all of them will be back to work by the end of July. The first semester will end Dec. 20, followed by a two-week winter break.

First Semester

  • July 20-21, 24-25: New teachers report
  • July 26: Administrative staff meeting
  • July 31: Required pre-planning/staff development
  • August 1-4: Required pre-planning/staff development
  • August 7: First day of school
  • September 4: Labor Day (system-wide holiday)
  • September 27-28: Early release, elementary and middle schools
  • October 9: Teacher planning (student holiday)
  • November 20-24: Thanksgiving break
  • December 18-20: Early release for high school exams
  • December 20: End first semester
  • December 21-29: Winter holiday
  • January 1: System-wide holiday
  • January 2: Student/teacher holiday
  • January 3: Teacher planning/staff development (student holiday)

Second Semester

  • January 4: Begin second semester
  • January 15: MLK Jr. Day (system-wide holiday)
  • February 9: Student/teacher holiday
  • February 19: Teacher planning/staff development (student holiday)
  • February 21-22: Early release, elementary and middle schools
  • February 23: Student/teacher holiday (weather makeup day)
  • March 9: Student/teacher holiday (weather makeup day)
  • March 23: Student/teacher holiday (weather makeup day)
  • April 2-6: Spring break (school holiday)
  • May 21-23: Early release for high school exams
  • May 23: Last day of school
  • May 24-25: Teacher post-planning/staff development
  • May 28: Memorial Day (system-wide holiday)
