Gwinnett Man Arrested in 2,000-Pound Pot Bust

The bust was believed to be the largest drug seizure in history by the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office.

A Gwinnett County man was one of three arrested in Rockdale County after a months-long investigation ended with the seizure of more than 2,000 pounds of marijuana.

It is believed to be the largest drug seizure ever by the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office, the agency said on Facebook.

Oscar Rene Cobian, 31, of Lawrenceville, was arrested along with Giovanny Eliseo Galvez-Fajardo, 29, of Jonesboro, and Jessie Lionel Suazo, 28, of Calumet, Illinois. All have been charged with Trafficking in Marijuana and are being held without bond in the Rockdale County Jail.

The sheriff’s office said the bust came after a joint investigation with the Conyers Police Department, which included surveillance of a warehouse on Old Covington Road that was believed to be used in shipping drugs.

On July 2, investigators noticed increased activity at the warehouse and suspected a shipment of drugs had arrived. A work van left the building and had reportedly run off the road a short time later. A deputy then performed a traffic stop.

After a K-9 dog indicated drugs were in the van, deputies searched the vehicle and found 47 wrapped bundles of marijuana; an additional 37 bundles were found later in the warehouse.

In total, the 84 bundles weighed 2,074 pounds, ”which is believed to be the largest drug seizure in RCSO history,” the agency said in the Facebook post.

“Drugs and the people distributing drugs are a risk to children and the community as a whole, and are not welcome in Rockdale County,” Sheriff Eric J. Levett said in the post. “I will continue my pledge to fight crime, apprehend those breaking the law and reduce crime. This was another great job by the men and women of the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office and Conyers Police Department.”
