Human Skull, Bones Found By Work Crew, Police Say

Gwinnett Police said the remains were found by a work crew clearing an easement Tuesday; authorities haven't be able to determine gender.

Authorities are looking into missing person cases in Gwinnett and surrounding counties for a match after a human skull and bones were discovered by a work crew in Buford.

Gwinnett Police public information officer Cpl. Michele Pihera said the remains were found Tuesday afternoon, July 21, as workers were clearing an easement along a pipeline on Centerville Drive. This is in a location not far from the Mall of Georgia.

Pihera said a fully intact skull and several other human bones were found scattered in the area. No clothing was found in the immediate area.

The GCPD Homicide and Crime Scene units, and the Medical Examiner’s Office, were notified of the discovery.

“The Medical Examiner’s Office has possession of the bones,” Pihera said. “They are working on a forensic examination to determine an identity. At this point, the M.E.’s Office cannot conclusively determine if the remains are male or female.”
