Hunters Stumble Upon Human Remains
Authorities said only bones were found in a wooded area near Auburn.

Two hunters stumbled upon human remains Saturday in a wooded area near Auburn, the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.
The office said on Facebook that it is working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to identify the remains found off Hill’s Shop Road.
The sheriff’s office said round 65 percent of a person’s bones were found at the scene and they had been there for “an extended period of time.”

“Crime Scene Investigators were able to excavate the scene and did locate several items of evidence [e.g. parts of clothing],” the sheriff’s office stated. “There were no apparent signs of trauma which would indicate the cause of death. Every death investigation, however, is treated with the utmost scrutiny until such determination is available.”
Officials spent around 24 hours investigating the scene.

“Sheriff’s officials are investigating open missing persons cases as well as consulting with other agencies with their cases as well. More information will be released when it becomes available,” the agency said.
