Jobless Rate in Gwinnett County Rose in June
The Georgia Department of Labor said unemployment was up in many places across the metro.

The unemployment rate in Gwinnett County rose a bit in June, according to data released Thursday by the state department of labor.

The rate in Gwinnett climbed two-tenths of a percentage point to 5.6 percent last month, up from 5.4 in May. The rate in the county in June 2014 was 6.7, the data showed.
June rates for Gwinnett cities over 25,000: Peachtree Corners, 3.4; Duluth, 5.6; Lawrenceville, 6.8. The rate fell three-tenths of a percent in Duluth and two-tenths in Lawrenceville, but Peachtree Corners’ rate rose two-tenths.

The labor department said metro Atlanta’s rate was up one-tenth of a point in June -- 6.0, up from 5.9 in May, but considerably less than June 2014 (7.3).
The rate rose as the number of jobs declined and new layoffs, as measured by unemployment insurance claims, increased, the labor department said.
Metro Gainesville had the lowest area jobless rate at 5.3 percent. The Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region had the highest at 8.2.
Georgia’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for June was 6.1 percent, down from 6.3 in May. It was 7.3 percent in June 2014.
