Mall of GA: Von Maur to Fill Nordstrom Vacancy

The Mall of Georgia will have a new tenant to fill the impending vacancy of its Nordstrom store space.

Von Maur Department Stores said in a news release that it plans to open next year its third location in Georgia, taking over the two-level, 165,000-square-foot space that’s soon to be vacated by Nordstrom. Van Maur, which has stores at Perimeter Mall and Northpoint Mall, expects to open in Fall, 2016.

Nordstrom, a tenant at the Gwinnett County mall since 2000, will stay open until Feb. 28. The company said 174 non-seasonal employees will be impacted by the closure.

Von Maur said it will eventually employ 200 workers, a majority of whom will be full time.

“The Mall of Georgia represents the ideal addition to our group of stores in the Greater Atlanta area,” Von Maur President Jim von Maur said in the news release. “As a premiere shopping destination and the largest mall in the Southeast, we are confident it will be an excellent match for us.”

“We are thrilled to have Von Maur join the Mall of Georgia,” said David Contis, President of Simon Malls. “Von Maur is a well-known fashion department store selling great brands that is known for its customer service. They are a perfect fit for our customer.”

The new location will be the fifth Von Maur department store in the Simon portfolio.

Known for its selection of brand name and specialty apparel, shoes, accessories and gifts, the store features such brands as Eileen Fisher, Free People, Kate Spade New York, Joe’s Jeans and Tommy Bahama, it said in the news release.
