Massive Publix Coupon Is A Scam

The grocery store chain is warning customers that an offer on social media isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Georgia consumers who come across a Publix coupon on social media sites that looks too good to be true are being advised to trust their guts.

The coupon, which offers $75 off a purchase of $80 or more, is fraudulent, Publix wrote on its official Facebook page.

"This is not supported by Publix and this coupon is not valid at any of our locations,” the store’s post reads. "We recommend not participating in the promotion or providing your personal information."

The situation, the store said, is under investigation.

The Publix scam isn’t the only one reported in recent weeks. Rip-offs take all forms, and social media is fertile ground for scam artist seeking to rip off, or merely trick, unsuspecting consumers.

But con jobs aren't limited to the pages of Facebook and Twitter, either.

In January, Milton Police warned consumers about a person seeking to enter residents' homes by posing as a city employee there to "check their water."

The same month, Sawnee EMC warned Cumming-area residents about a phone scam in which someone posed as an employee of the power company and said customers' electricity would be turned off if they didn't pay over the phone with a prepaid credit card.

And in February, a prescription-discount scam, targeting seniors, was circulating in Cherokee County. It involved tricking victims into paying for a card that supposedly would give them cheaper prices on their prescriptions.
