New Bridge Near Dacula Approved By County Commissioners

The Old Fountain Road bridge over the Alcovy River will be paid for by 2009 SPLOST funds.

A new bridge across the Alcovy River near Dacula is one of two road project approved by Gwinnett County Commissioners Tuesay, according to a news release.

The planned bridge project on Old Fountain Road will include raising the roadway to improve sight distance and include center turn lanes for left turns into neighborhoods adjacent to the bridge. Sidewalk, curb, gutter and drainage improvements are also included in the $2.8 million contract with Massana Construction.

The county said Old Fountain Road will be closed for approximately four months after clearing and utility relocations. The detour will take drivers from Prospect Road to Prospect Church Road to Old Peachtree Road and the reverse. Work is expected to be completed in the middle of next year.
