Our Bodies Are On Toxic Overload!

The fact is that our bodies carry around various industrial chemicals, pesticides, food additives, heavy metals and anesthetics plus the residues of pharmaceuticals. Over 5.1 billion pounds of pesticides are used each year in the US.  Most drinking water contains over 700 chemicals, including lead and fluoride.  Our food supply is infused with over 3000 chemicals.  And, as many as 10,000 chemicals in the form of solvents, emulsifiers, and preservatives are used in food processing and storage.  All of these can remain in your body for years.

Fortunately, our bodies have a built-in system for detoxing through the lungs, skin, kidneys, liver, and colon.  This system can get bogged down with the overwhelming amounts of toxins so that key detoxification organs such as the intestines and liver are unable to fully detoxify themselves or the body. When the body can’t keep up with toxic overload, these  toxins quickly move from the bloodstream and get stored in fat, the brain and other tissues, causing systemic problems.

It’s not possible to fully avoid toxins, but we can take some steps to fight against them such as:

1.      Eat Organic where possible, avoiding conventional processed foods that might also contain GMO ingredients

2.      Drink Clean Water, at least 8-10 glasses per day

3.      Live clean by removing chemical contaminants for personal care products and household cleaners

4.      Bulk Up your diet by eating 8-10 servings of organic, raw veggies and fruits each day.  Best detoxifiers are broccoli, kale, cabbage, and spinach

5.      Exercise regularly, at least 5 days per week for about an hour.  Be sure to work up a sweat, since sweating helps detoxify the body

I have found three detox programs that I use and like.  One is a three day cleanse using a product called SueroViv from a great company called Beyond Organic.  The second is infrared sauna, which I fortunately have in our studio.  The third is called Biocleanse which is done by my reflexologist.  This is where you put your feet in a water container and a special device with an electrical current is applied to the water which draws the toxins from your body through your feet.  This takes about 45 minutes.  You can then see the results in the dirty colored water, which is pretty ugly, but better in the water than in your body.  These methods are quite reasonably priced.  Call me at the studio if you would like more information.  Till next time.
