Gwinnett Police investigating a deputy-involved shooting Monday night near Hoschton aren’t sure whether or not anyone was wounded.

According to a police news release, deputies from Gwinnett and Walton counties were serving a misdemeanor warrant for a female around 6 p.m. Monday at 4960 Braselton Highway just before the incident happened.

The deputies noticed a suspicious car occupied by several people parked toward the back of the property and when they approached, the car sped off around the house and through the front yard.

Police said the car was allegedly headed toward a Gwinnett deputy, who fired a shot that struck the windshield. However, the car continued on down Braselton Highway toward Flowery Branch Road.

Police found the car later, but there was no sign that any of the occupants had been hit.

“Because of the absence of blood, the investigators do not believe that anyone was struck by the bullet,” Gwinnett Police Cpl. Michele Pihera said in the news release.

The female who was originally sought was taken into custody, Pihera said. She was not in the vehicle.

Deputies believe the driver of the white Ford Escape was male. Calls were made to local hospitals to see if anyone had been admitted with a bullet wound, but there apparently were none.

Pihera said GCPD received a call around 9 p.m. from a resident on Bill Cheek Road near Auburn, saying a white vehicle had been abandoned on the property. It was confirmed as the car involved in the incident. A bullet hole was visible on the front of the vehicle.

“Inside the home was a female occupant of the vehicle. She was taken into custody,” Pihera said in the release. “The detective in this case has good leads as to the identities of the other two individuals that were inside the vehicle.”

None of the names of those involved have been released.

Pihera said the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Gwinnett County Police Department in handling the investigation.
