Report: Details Released on Inmate Killed at Phillips State Prison in Buford

He was found face down in his cell on Jan. 4.

The inmate killed last week at the Phillip State Prison in Buford was stabbed four times, according to details from an open records request.

The state department of corrections released details of Antonio Maurice Turner’s death following an open records request by the Gwinnett Daily Post. Turner, from Canton, was found face down in his cell around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 4; he had been stabbed twice in the chest and twice in the left leg, the newspaper reported.

According to prison records, Turner was serving a 10-year sentence for strong-arm robbery in Cherokee County in 2011.

Phillips State Prison is located at 2889 West Rock Quarry Road in Buford.
