Sheriff's Office: Woman Found With Gun in Purse at Courthouse

Gwinnett Sheriff's Office said on Facebook the woman tried to enter Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center through employee door.

A woman who allegedly tried to enter the Gwinnett Justice & Administration Center through an employee entrance was found with a loaded gun in her purse, the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook Tuesday afternoon.

According to the post, the woman was identified as Shashirekha Shetty. She doesn’t work at the courthouse and does not have a firearms permit, the sheriff’s office said.

“The nature of her visit to GJAC is unknown, as she immediately invoked her right to speak to an attorney,” the post stated. “Our deputies immediately invoked their right to place her under arrest.”

The woman, listed as a Duluth resident, was booked in the county jail just before 3 p.m. and release a couple of hours later on a $13,000 bond, according to jail records. She has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon in an unauthorized location.
