StreetWise Georgia Offers More Than Sweets This Easter

Since its beginning in 1988, StreetWise Georgia has striven to meet the needs of its community tangibly with food, clothing, individualized counseling, and life classes. With their Distribution Center in Lawrenceville and the Chapel located in Auburn, GA, they offer a wide range of resources through scheduled appointments along with more than 8 annual/monthly events. Increase of supply and influence in their community has given StreetWise a staggering growth from 148,000 lbs. of food handled in 2012 to over 950,000 lbs. processed this past year. During a regular intake appointment at StreetWise, an average family of four receives around 275 lbs. of food items including bread, produce, canned goods, and frozen meat. Helping to make the difference, StreetWise has added food distribution to events like their Easter Celebrations coming this April.

The event begins with welcoming smiles from their volunteer-driven Staff. After registration, a short program offering the Biblical motivation for the festivities is followed up by the children receiving a specially packaged basket filled with toys, colorful plastic eggs, and individually wrapped candies. In addition to the children’s gifts, StreetWise also provides groceries for the parents that attend the event, offering further assistance for immediate needs. Between the two locations where the event will be held, each family will be given an average of about 65 lbs. of fresh produce and other food items to take home. This bonus food distribution at the Easter Event is designed to give families additional hunger relief for those in the household.
