Ticket Sales Soar for Final Harry Potter Film

Theaters prepare as Potter fans of all ages rapidly snatch up tickets to see the final installment in the most successful movie franchise of all time.

Pottermania is building as fans snatch up tickets in eager anticipation of the eighth and final installment in the Harry Potter blockbuster movie franchise.

has doubled their ticket sales since last week, the Regal Cinema Mall of Georgia has sold out seven screens for the midnight showing and, according to Regal Entertainment Group, ticket sales are soaring across the country.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II" will be released in theaters at midnight on Thursday, July 14. For all Potter fans, the night may be emotional and bittersweet. After all, it has been 10 years and eight films since fans were whisked away into the the magical world of Hogwarts and introduced to the young and adorable Harry, Hermione and Ron.

Harry has grown up over the years and so have his fans. In addition to original fans from the first movie in 2001, new fans have been added over the years leading to a multi-generational love for the magical, wizarding world of Harry Potter. Over 400 million copies of the Harry Potter books have been sold creating a large fan base for this latest and final movie.

In Dacula, Hamilton Mill Great Escape Theater has sold over 860 tickets for the midnight release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II." Theater officials say they are willing to open up as many screens as necessary to accommodate loyal Harry Potter fans. The theater is able to hold up to 1,900 movie patrons. While the theater does not expect to sell out, close to 1,500 tickets are expected to be sold for the evening’s magical event.

General Manager Chris Hudson said the theater is prepared and ready to have a great show. Most advance ticket holders have purchased their tickets online. However, over 300 Potter fans have purchased tickets in person at the theater box office.

Hamilton Mill 14 is offering two special deals for release night. One is a special double feature on the night of July 14. Theatergoers can watch both parts of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" in one night for a discounted price. Part One will be shown at 9 p.m., and Part Two at midnight. In addition to the double feature special, the theater will be giving out Harry Potter 3D collector glasses to the first 300 Potter fans at the door.

Nearby in Buford, the Regal Cinema Mall of Georgia has sold out seven screens for the midnight showing of the movie. The theater is offering showtimes throughout the night. Theater representatives say the 3 a.m. IMAX showing is also already sold out.

“Everyone is eagerly awaiting the final movie, and the theater is willing to open additional screens if necessary,” said National Marketing Manager for Regal Entertainment Group Robbie Arrington. 

Arrington said ticket sales across the nation are soaring.

“Smaller cities are filling up fast, and most larger cities have completely sold out,” he said. “Some theaters are hosting release parties and costume contests before the midnight movie release.”

Tickets for Regal Mall of Georgia showings can be purchased at the theater’s location or online through Fandango.
