What Does It Take to Feed Thousands of Students a Day?
Ever wonder what happens behind the scenes in the cafeteria of the largest high school in Georgia?
With a student population of approximately 3,500 students, Mill Creek High School does many things on a very large scale, including lunch.
"We serve roughly 2,000 lunches a day in a three-hour time frame," said School Nutrition Manager Lori Murphy.
Murphy and her staff of 25 begin work early -- some as early as 5 a.m. in order to serve breakfast to 900 or so students.

In addition to preparing and serving meals, Murphy and her staff must make sure enough food is ordered and delivered to the school on a weekly basis. According to Murphy, the school receives two $3,000 shipments each week of produce, $350 worth of milk each day and $12,000 to $16,000 in other food products weekly.
