Woodall Votes for $100 Billion in Cuts

Large reduction in discretionary spending part of House bill.

After a week-long debate and over 500 amendments, H.R. 1 passed the United States House of Representatives around 4 a.m. on Feb. 19.

Congressman Rob Woodall (R-GA-07) voted in favor of the bill which will provide continued discretionary spending for the rest of the 2011 fiscal year.

“I proudly cast my vote in favor of a bill that begins the dramatic spending reductions this Congress promised the American people,” Woodall said in a released statement.  “H.R. 1 is a step toward the serious fiscal reform the American people called for in the November election.”

Woodall said the ninety hours of debate prior to the bill’s passage show that Congress has “begun to embrace the deliberative process that the our nation's Founding Founders intended.”

“I am proud to be a part of this new path,” Woodall said.

According to Woodall, H.R. 1 will cut $100 billion in discretionary spending – the largest discretionary spending reduction in the nation’s history.

“That said, $100 billion is only one fifteenth of the national deficit.  As such, I will continue working with my colleagues to push for further fiscal reform,” Woodall added.

Woodall’s Seventh District includes all of Barrow and Walton counties, most of Gwinnett County, and portions of Forsyth and Newton counties.
